Reasons to Celebrate 2/22/22 (or 2/2/22)

Reasons to celebrate 2s day

Have you heard about what I call “2’s Day” yet? It’s one (or both) of the two dates this year that have all 2’s – 2/22/22 and/or 2/2/22. I heard about it in what would supposed to be a funny meme, but I thought it was super fun! And why not use the fun of the date as an opportunity to engage students in he curriculum?

I first thought of the idea to create some math problems that equal or almost equal 22, then of some writing prompts… then I put my mind to it and created several dozen pages of differentiated activities for your students in grades 2-4 (and maybe even 1st and 5th if students need challenges or reviews).

Let’s take a peek at what you can use to get your students engaged and learning and make the date memorable!

MATH:

Task Cards and Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and

Division Practice and More Math

There are 2 set of task cards. Set A has word problems that mostly include the number 22 in some way; set B has the number 2,222. The basic operation practice has 3 levels of difficulty – numbers 22 and below, in the hundreds and in the thousands. Answer keys are included and they are quick and easy to print and copy for bell ringers, a math center, or even independent practice.

Finally, I included an activity for 2/22/22 and/or 2/2/22 where students do activities for 22 seconds and a peer counts how many repetitions they can do. For example: jumping jacks and drawing stars. Then the activity is flipped and students can have someone time them to see how long it takes them to so 22 jumping jacks, draw 22 stars etc.

More Math and SEL

Try the 22 calming cards – great for social emotional learning and you can print them in color or black and white. I love to laminate these and keep them on an o-ring.

Also there are differentiated Shopping Time activities – printables are set up so you can choose from a $22, $222 or $2,222 budget. Examples are included so you can show your students what to do. Kids will be having fun and forgetting they are learning with Shopping Time on 2/22/22!

Reading and Writing

I Can Read 22 Words comes in 4 versions, from words from the Dolch Preprimer list to advanced words with multiple syllables and prefixes and suffixes. I Can Write 22 Words is open ended so students can show you what they know. They are fun and easy ways to celebrate 2/22/22 and/or 2/2/22!

For writing prompts there are tons of options! Plus I left a blank spot so you, or your students, can write in the number of sentences you expect them to write. Included are:

  • I would like 2… and I do not want 2…
  • I would like 22… and I do not want 22…
  • If I had $22…
  • I could eat 22… and I do not want to eat 22…

You could assign everyone the same prompt or let students choose. They also have regular writing lines, Handwriting without Tears lines, and with and without sentence starters. I love seeing what students write for these prompts!

You can grab all these activities here!

So you can see how fun 2’s Day, aka 2/22/22, could be, right? Check out these activities here:
