7 Reasons Why Interactive Notebooks are Very Relevant
Have you ever used Interactive Notebooks (INBs) with your class? They started becoming popular around 2014 but I want to explain to you 7 reasons why interactive Notebooks are still very relevant!
You may have gotten on the interactive notebook bandwagon in the past. I actually created my own language arts, reading, spelling, and math (money and measurement) interactive notebooks for my 2nd graders.
I was looking for helpful, content-rich INBs that had simpler fonts and less distracting borders and clip art because my second graders tended to get distracted by busy, fancy graphics.
So I just made my own from scratch!
And let me clue you in on why I love using them.
7 Reasons to Love Interactive Notebooks
- Students are more engaged than basic worksheets
- They are flipping flaps and looking under tabs for information
- Glueing and cutting (a fave since it sneaks in fine motor practice)
- Students are creating their own manual that they keep adding to
- Students have an organized resource
- They can refer to it in the future
- And it’s an excellent record of their work all in one place!
Plus, with a high quality INB you can’t go wrong with the content.
My favorite INB, the 2nd Grade Interactive Language Arts Notebook, addresses all of the following topics that help support students and they learning the building blocks of writing and how to attack different types of writing prompts (plus relevant CCSS is marked on every page to support you!):
- Nouns
- Verbs
- Adjectives
- Adverbs
- Complete Sentences
- Capitalization
- Punctuation
- Subjects and predicates
- Structure (like simple and compound sentences)
- Brainstorming
- Opinion writing
- Narrative writing
- Informational writing
- Fiction
- Editing / proofreading
