So I am off to Vegas in 2 days but I made sure to get my post ready for today so I could link up with Deanna Jump for Book Talk Tuesday!
I know, this may seem like an odd book pick in JULY, but this week I am going with a classic, Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. Lovvvvveee this story and recently bought it for my classroom after not having a copy since I was a child.
You can do a lot with this story- I have not really taken advantage of it, as I only read it out loud to my class last year. You can work on plot-there is a lot there. Your class can look at characters and since Katy is a character even though she is a plow, Burton gives you some good stuff to work with! Katy reminds me a little of The Little Engine that Could – she keeps going and going until she gets the job done !A good social studies connection to make is to focus on the community helpers aspect of the story, which is part of the CCSS.
